Vietnam & Cambodia

We went to a workshop where they made pictures with eggshells. This person is taking small little pieces and placing them like a mosaic. The eggshells are burnt to make them different colors.
After they have them all finished, the picture is rough so they have to cover it with a varnish. They put many layers of varnish on to make the picture very beautiful.
We visited an island in Vietnam and had lunch on the island. As we walked to where we would be eating, we saw this water buffalo in the water. After lunch, the buffalo got out of the water.

Here are two pictures of what we had for lunch that day. In Asia they like to serve you the WHOLE fish!

Trip to Silk Factory

Two Saturdays ago, we went to a silk factory. These are silk worms when they are only 5 days old.
When the worms get bigger, they will spin cocoons with silk that they make. At the factory, they take the cocoons and spin the silk back off to make things with it. Here are two machines that work at getting the silk off the cocoon.

This is one of the machines that they spin the silk onto spools to use for weaving, sewing or what ever.
This is the silk. It takes a lot of cocoons to make this much silk.

My dad took a picture of us outside the factory.
Cocoons that have two worms in them are used to make blankets. We are stretching out ONE cocoon. It was very hard to stretch. I thought it was very soft when it was all stretched out.

This lady is stretching out one of the double cocoons to get it ready for the blankets. She will stretch 8 of them and put them together over the arch before they go to the table.
Lunch after at a Korean Restaurant. I am pretty good with chopsticks.

Halloween in China

Happy Halloween everyone!
This is me in my Halloween costume. It is a Indian dress.

Here are some goodies that I got while trick-or-treating. They were interesting.

Both of these were kind of a solid gel thing. The long one was not good. The round one looked like this:I lifted this out of the cup with a fork. It tasted okay but not good enough to actually eat.

I got some skittles and M&Ms. They are next to a one dollar coin so that you can tell how small they are. Much smaller than what we get trick-or-treating in the US.

These are cakes and cookies that I got as well.

The pancake is pictured below and it was really not very good. I had to spit it out.

Halloween was fun but no where close to the candy collections I would get in the states. It was fun to celebrate a little bit because we didn't think that we would be doing Halloween at all here since the Chinese do not celebrate Halloween. Hope you had a spooky Halloween and that you ate lots of candy for me. :)

Fun Stuff

This is my first time to be on a elephant. It was fun. We were in Shanghai. I like going to the safari park there.

The next pitcher, my family and I feed the monkeys in the safari park. One monkey would drop the apple it had to take a piece of a apple that was a little bet bigger than the one it had. It was a very greedy monkey.

In this pitcher, I am feeding the birds. There claws made marks, but it didn't hurt. It kind of frighten me when they flap there wings.

First Post

Ni Hao from China. For the first month we were in China, we lived in Shanghai.

Now we are in Suzhou and here are my class mates. My teacher Mrs. Bano is in the middle in the black shirt. She is from Canada. I am the only American in my class. There are 16 kids in my class including me. These pictures were taken at a soccer tournament so we were not in our uniforms. On normal days we all wear uniforms like the boy on the far right. Although girls wear skorts if they want to. I will put a picture on later in my uniform. I will also try to tell you more about things I see and eat here. Hope every one is doing well.
